John Edwards' former mistress is writing a tell-all book because she fears her "hush money" will dry up, reports the New York Daily News in a rundown of the National Enquirer's latest scoop on the fallen-from-grace Dem. An enterprising Enquirer reporter is said to have stolen one of her tot's dirty diapers as a source of DNA evidence to prove the paternity Edwards is still denying, says the News.

Rielle Hunter had been receiving monthly payments—reportedly as much as $15,000 a pop—from former Edwards finance chair Fred Baron, who died last month, and "Rielle views the book as her personal insurance policy," an insider tells the supermarket tabloid. Meanwhile, on quest for proof of paternity, "I will neither confirm nor deny possession of a dirty diaper," said the tab's editor. "But I would like to do a DNA test." Adds an insider, "All they need is a cup he drank from."
