Charter found near Cuba, crew missing; 2 survivors being held

(Newser) – The sea is telling no secrets about an abandoned charter boat found 30 miles north of Cuba this week, missing the young couple who owned it and two crewmembers. But Newsweek reports that the two men who chartered the boat, found floating miles away in its life raft, are failing to impress authorities with their story about pirates who killed the four.

One of those men, Kirby Archer, is accused of stealing $92,000 from an Arkansas Wal-Mart, while investigators have charged the other with lying to them about having ever been aboard the charter—the two will have a bail hearing Tuesday. Archer reportedly paid cash for the $4,000 charter trip. Coast Guard officials have called off their search for the bodies. (Read more Florida stories.)
