A Minnesota judge today rejected Sen. Larry Craig's attempt to rescind his guilty plea in a June men's bathroom sex sting, saying it had been entered "accurately, voluntarily, and intelligently," CNN reports. There was no immediate response from the Idaho Republican, who had said he would resign if he was unable to withdraw the plea by the end of September.

Craig's attorneys argued in court last week that he panicked at the time of his arrest, and thought a guilty plea was the quickest way of quieting the situation. Craig's troubles are not the only facing the Senate GOP: New Mexico's Pete Domenici was to announce his intention to retire today, creating potential 2008 losses in a half-dozen states.
