If the rumor mill is to be believed, Haiti could soon have a Fugee for a president. Wyclef Jean, who was appointed ambassador-at-large for his native country in 2007, is considering a run for the five-year position, but reports vary on how serious he is. His family recently released a statement saying his “commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless,” and that “if and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately,” the AP reports.

Canadian paper Le Droit goes a bit further, citing sources who claim Jean just needs his paperwork to be finalized by the deadline next week, the National Post reports. Jean tells CNN that he’s still deciding, but he’s filled out the paperwork just in case. Gawker points to a vague not-quite-denial of the rumors Jean issued on Twitter, as well as a series of “political-type activities” he’s been engaging in lately…and a list of shadier activities that will likely come up should he run.
