A group of former soldiers has released three pictures that it says show Israeli soldiers committing misdeeds during Israel’s 2008-2009 Gaza offensive. One image show soldiers pointing a rifle at a man who could be a Palestinian detainee; another shows a man with a rifle in what appears to be a Palestinian kitchen as a woman prepares food. A third shows a soldier spray-painting a star of David on a wall along with the words, “We’ll be back,” in Hebrew.

“Our fight is to let people know that this is the norm—that these things are very widespread and common in all units,” the head of the group, which calls itself Breaking the Silence, told CNN. “We believe that our society needs to be told the truth.” The group published the images on Facebook, and promised to release more from time to time. All the soldiers’ faces were blacked out. (More Israel stories.)
