A big first half proved decisive for Tennessee today, as the Vols bested Wisconsin 21-17 in the Outback Bowl, the Tennessean reports. Though UT was kept off the scoreboard in the second half, they likewise held the Badgers to a mere three points. With the win came redemption for a loss to Penn State in last year's Outback Bowl.

“We’re really proud of the win,” said UT coach Phillip Fulmer. "It finishes off a season that has been very challenging, to say the least."  Vols QB Erik Ainge earned MVP honors for a two-touchdown, 365-yard effort, with no turnovers. No.16 UT improved to 10-4, as No.18 Wisconsin fell to 9-4 with the loss. (More Bowl Championship Series stories.)
