The Florida Panthers gave coach Jacques Martin his 500th career victory by beating the New Jersey Devils 2-1 Friday, the Associated Press reports. Backup goalie Craig Anderson had 31 saves to help the Panthers end a 3-game losing streak. The Panthers trailed 1-0 going into the third period, but Radek Dvorak and David Booth scored early in the third.

Anderson made sure the lead held up by stopping a Brian Gionta shot with 2 1/2 minutes left. Travis Zajac scored lone goal for the Devils, who had won six straight home games against Florida. The Devils had four power plays after the Zajac goal, but couldn't extend their lead. Martin is the 10th NHL coach to post 500 wins. (More NHL stories.)
