Depressing fact of the day: Kim Kardashian's engagement ring from Kanye West is worth more than you'll make in a lifetime. One expert values the 15-carat rock at $8 million, the New York Daily News reports. Though it's smaller than the 20.5-carat sparkler Kim got from ex-hubby Kris Humphries, that one was worth just $2 million and was neither as rare nor as flawless nor as sparkly as her current diamond. Good job, Kanye? Not so much: Sources tell Radar Kim "told Kanye to get the ring from Lorraine Schwartz" and picked it out herself.
At least West got the ring at a discount, thanks to the publicity it brings to the jeweler: A source says he paid less than $500,000. Add to that at least $220,000 to rent out the ballpark where he proposed, plus however much the 50-piece orchestra and fireworks cost ... not to mention arrangements for all the friends and family who attended. Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis was among them, and he says Kanye "got all these high-profile people to San Francisco, to hotels and moved them all around without anyone tweeting sightings. We were all sworn to radio silence." All in all, a very expensive proposal: TMZ reports orchestra members were paid up to $1,000 each, and of course, the whole thing was filmed ... so you might get to see it on a certain reality show.
