The New Jersey Devils scored three goals in the second period and beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2. Sergei Brylin scored the third goal of the pivotal period just 1:10 after John Madden had scored. New Jersey has now won three straight and five of their last six. Conversely San Jose is now on a season-worst five-game slide, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Thomas Vanek had a hat trick as Buffalo came from behind to defeat Tampa Bay in overtime. One of Vanek’s goals was the game-winner in the extra period.
  • The New York Islanders won their season-best fifth straight game, defeating the Washington Capitals 3-2 in a shootout. Mike Comrie scored the only goal in the shootout.
