(Newser) – Three teenage girls trick-or-treating in Halloween costumes were killed by a hit-and-run driver at a Southern California intersection last night. The girls were in a crosswalk near an elementary school in Santa Ana when an SUV with two men inside hit them about 6:45pm, police and fire officials said. The girls ranged in age from 13 to 15, and the Los Angeles Times reports that two of the victims were 13-year-old twins.

Authorities in Washington state, meanwhile, said two 7-year-old girls and a 20-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries when they were hit by a car while trick-or-treating in Vancouver. The car reportedly jumped a curb. (Read more hit-and-run stories.)
