A year after speaking out about his struggle with drugs, the son of Sean Penn and Robin Wright has been arrested on drug possession charges in Nebraska, reports the AP. A Nebraska State Patrol spokesman says 24-year-old Hopper Penn, and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Uma Von Wittkamp, were arrested Wednesday afternoon after a trooper stopped their vehicle for failing to signal on Interstate 80, per TMZ. Authorities say the trooper detected drug activity inside the vehicle and found 14 grams of marijuana, four amphetamine pills and 3 grams of mushrooms.
Von Wittkamp was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a felony. Penn—who had an acting role in 2017's War Machine—was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Both were taken to the Hamilton County Jail. Last year, Penn discussed his struggle with meth with the Evening Standard, noting an ultimatum from his dad led him to rehab. "I woke up in hospital and my dad said, 'Rehab? Or bus bench?' I was like, 'I'll take the bed,'" he said. "Thank God I got out of that because that was the worst time in my life." (Read more Nebraska stories.)
