Modern Family star Sarah Hyland is taking a break from Twitter as she mourns her teenage cousin, killed by an alleged drunk driver in Nebraska over the weekend. Trevor Canaday, 14, was traveling with his father to a show choir event in Omaha on Saturday when a driver ran a red light and hit their vehicle, according to a GoFundMe page. Trevor was ejected and suffered fatal head injuries, reports USA Today. His father, 59-year-old Clifford "Bryan" Canaday, also suffered serious head injuries but is expected to be released from the hospital on Friday, per WOWT, which identifies the other driver as Jeffrey Eggeling, 36. Hyland instead referred to him as a "murderer," citing two previous DUI convictions confirmed by KMTV. Per People, Eggeling fled the scene on foot before he was found with a blood alcohol concentration of .103.

Eggeling faces charges Tuesday of motor vehicle homicide, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an injury crash; he'll face up to 57 years in prison if convicted, per KETV. "May he rot in hell," tweeted Hyland, sharing a link to the GoFundMe campaign which has raised more than $35,000 to cover funeral and medical expenses. Hyland thanked Modern Family's Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould for donating, though others proved unwilling given Hyland's estimated $9 million fortune, per Hours after asking those with "negative thoughts or opinions about the tragedy that happened to my family to keep them to themselves," the actress-singer announced an Internet hiatus. "Your horrible negative ignorant words have broken me. Happy? Staying offline for a while," she wrote. (Hyland has struggled with her own health issues.)
