Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for no less than $50 million for allegedly defaming him with domestic-abuse allegations, People reports. Calling her claims a "hoax," Depp's lawyers say she "purported to write from the perspective of 'a public figure representing domestic abuse' and claimed that she 'felt the full force of our culture's wrath for women who speak out’ when she 'spoke up against sexual violence.' The op-ed depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her. Mr. Depp never abused Ms. Heard." Depp also claims the Washington Post op-ed hurt his career and got him dropped from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

The suit also says Heard and Elon Musk started a relationship within a month of her February 2015 wedding to Depp. Heard's rep responded by calling the lawsuit a "frivolous action" and an effort to "silence" the actress: "Mr. Depp's actions prove he is unable to accept the truth of his ongoing abusive behavior," per the rep. "But while he appears hell-bent on achieving self-destruction, we will prevail in defeating this groundless lawsuit and ending the continued vile harassment of my client by Mr. Depp and his legal team." The Blast looks back at their very public May 2016 divorce, in which Heard got a temporary restraining order against Depp and he claimed she'd injured him with a vodka bottle. Heard won a $7 million settlement, which she gave partly to charity. (More Johnny Depp stories.)
