When Popeyes added a fried chicken sandwich to its menu recently, one North Carolina teen made his way there ... and registered voters. As WCNC reports, David Ledbetter, who at 17 is not yet old enough to vote himself, wanted to get others involved after noticing "a lack of young people politically involved." So, on Saturday, he headed out to a Charlotte Popeyes, where he took advantage of people waiting in line to try the new $3.99 menu item. (This is the one that sparked an online rivalry with Chick-fil-A.) The rising high school senior says he got 16 people registered to vote. "I believe that it is our duty to vote as American citizens and it would be wrong not to exercise our political voice," he says. (As for the sandwich, it's proved so popular one location was forced to temporarily shut its doors and many stores are selling out.)
