Not much is known about Jurassic World 3, but what is now known is pretty exciting: Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum, the iconic trio from Jurassic Park, is back. All three will appear in Jurassic World 3 in "sizable roles," according to Collider. Deadline reports the announcement was made Tuesday night at a fan screening of Battle at Big Rock, a short film from the Jurassic universe, and runs down the previous appearances of their three characters for those of you who may have forgotten just how many Jurassic movies there have been since the first in 1993:

  • Goldblum was back as Dr. Ian Malcolm in 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park, the first sequel.
  • Dern and Neill were back as Dr. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Alan Grant in 2001’s Jurassic Park III, though Dern had only a cameo.
  • None of them appeared in 2015's Jurassic World, which starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
  • Goldblum had a small role in the first Jurassic World sequel, 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which again starred Pratt and Howard.

For the latest movie, which will be released June 11, 2021, the original trio will appear alongside Pratt and Howard. As an amusingly sarcastic post at Vice explains (spoiler alert!) when last we saw the dinosaurs, they had made it off their island and were in larger civilization, alongside humans. "Will the dinosaurs eat a bunch of innocent people? Are Pratt and Howard's characters going to make out? Will Goldblum go shirtless? Will this one score above a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes? So many questions; such predictable answers," writes Drew Schwartz. Rachel Leishman at the Mary Sue was a bit more excited: "Sure, the rest of the original trilogy gets a bad name ... but there is something about Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm coming back that brings me such a sense of relief that I can’t quite explain it."
