(Newser) – A prominent Australian TV host flew 10,000 miles to London to interview Adele about her new album and did, in fact, speak with her for about 30 minutes. Australians, however, will apparently never see the interview because of an admission made by Matt Doran of Channel 7 during their conversation—he hadn't actually listened to the album, reports the BBC. Doran, who is taking a lot of flak over this, insists it wasn't a diss. The album, 30, wasn't out yet when the interview took place, and he says he did not realize he had been emailed an advance copy. "It was an oversight but not a deliberate snub," he told the Australian newspaper, per the Guardian. "This is the most important email I have ever missed."

Her music company, Sony, says it is withholding the rights to the interview footage because of the flub. Doran, meanwhile, says he is "mortified." He apparently was taken off the air, at least for a week, but says he was not "formally" suspended. Critics are not cutting him slack, such as this takedown by writer Tarla Lambert in Women's Agenda. "Privilege personified," she wrote. (Read more Adele stories.)
