Hades' greatest hero is back in Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and most critics agree it's a hell of a ride. Director Guillermo del Toro returns with comic book creator Mike Mignola, ensuring the dynamic sequel is "shot through with the franchise's signature goofiness, sarcasm and good heart," writes Ann Hornaday in the Washington Post.

Star Ron Perlman shares the screen with del Toro's spooky creations in a "mix of epic fantasy, tender romance, broad comedy, and double-barreled excitement that satisfies all your pleasure centers," Sean Means writes in the Salt Lake Tribune. Superhero movies are hot this summer, Richard Corliss writes in Time, but with del Toro's wild imagination bringing it to life, Hellboy "is downright infernal." (More Guillermo Del Toro stories.)
