Think David Letterman’s still just a wee bit bitter about his schism with NBC? Letterman offered his take on NBC’s Tonight Show debacle last night, mocking “Jay ‘big jawed’ Leno” and the “geniuses” who shuffled the schedule. “A lot of people may criticize these executives at NBC, but don’t kid yourself,” he said, “If they didn’t know what they were doing, they wouldn’t be there.”

Letterman thinks the situation’s all about money. He says NBC’s executives “want Conan to quit and go away and do a show in his basement. That’s what they want. But he’s a smart kid, he’s not going to do that. He’s in there for the cash. Or they waive his non-compete clause so he can go to Fox or come here and take my job. Wait a minute!” (More David Letterman stories.)
