Memphis Tigers super-freshman Derrick Rose had an immediate impact in his team’s opener, a 102-71 dismantling of Tennessee-Martin. Rose had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists for No. 3 Memphis in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic. Chris Douglas-Roberts had 28 points to lead the Tigers while Lester Hudson had 35 for the Skyhawks, reports the AP.

The Tigers started off slow, trailing midway through the first half 23-19, but an 18-1 run gave Memphis a sizable lead. Any doubt was removed after the Tigers scored the first 17 points of the second half. Rose shot 8-of-16 from the field in the game, which benefits Coaches v. Cancer. Memphis senior Joey Dorsey missed the game with a sprained ankle. (More NCAA basketball stories.)
