Kent State played even with UNLV in the second half of their NCAA Tournament first round game today, but it was the first half that sent the Flashes down in flames 71-58, reports the Associated Press. The 8th-seeded Rebels held the 9th-seeded Flashes to a tournament- record tying 10 points in the first half in building a 31-10 halftime lead.

Joe Darger led UNLV (27-7) with 18 points, and Wink Adams had 17. The Flashes (28-7) turned the ball over 20 times, including almost a turnover a minute in the first half, and had almost an eight-minute scoreless stretch in the first half. UNLV only shot 40% in the first half and had nine turnovers, yet still built its huge lead. (More March Madness stories.)
