When they found their 94-year-old father dead of an apparent stroke or heart attack, Sarah and Susan Kort allegedly did what any reasonable adult would do: buried him in his yard. The Kort daughters admitted the deed to authorities after "heavily decomposed remains" were found in a shallow grave near Melvin Kort's Florida home, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Melvin Kort likely died four or five years ago, but wasn't reported missing until July by his out-of-state brother, who was concerned he hadn't heard from his brother in nine years. The daughters told their uncle their father had moved out, and when sheriff's deputies came by to ask questions, they told them he had moved up north. No further action was taken until September, when deputies got a tip that a body was buried near Kort's home.

Sarah and Susan Kort say they panicked when they found him dead, a Sheriff's Office spokesperson says. The remains have not yet been confirmed to belong to Melvin Kort, but a DNA test is in the works. An autopsy of the remains could not find a cause of death but also did not show any signs of trauma. The sisters could be charged with improper disposal of a deceased body. (More strange stuff stories.)
