Wyclef Jean was briefly detained and handcuffed around 1:30am Tuesday in a case of mistaken identity, TMZ reports. LA County sheriff's deputies were looking for an armed robbery suspect when they pulled over the singer and actor in West Hollywood because his vehicle and appearance apparently matched the robber's description; one of the women in Jean's car got out and, sources tell TMZ, Jean reached for his waistband, which is what led to him being cuffed for about six minutes. The group was released when the deputies realized Jean wasn't the suspect. Jean has been blasting the sheriff's department (which he refers to as the LAPD) across his social media accounts since the incident.

"Another case of mistaken identity. Black man with red bandana robbed a gas station as I was in the studio working but im in handcuffs?," he wrote on Twitter alongside a video of him cuffed. He went on to say that he was cuffed before being asked to identify himself, and was not told why he was being cuffed. In videos of the incident posted to Instagram, Jean said he plans to sue, People reports. (More Wyclef Jean stories.)
