Saying "it's been a rough couple years," Justin Bieber announced Wednesday that he has Lyme disease. The singer disclosed his health problems on Instagram, CNN reports, answering those who had said recently that he doesn't look well and might be using meth. In addition to fighting Lyme disease, Bieber said he had "a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health." He said more will be explained in a series he's posting later this month on YouTube. Bieber, who released his first solo single in more than four years last week, posted that he's "getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever."

Hailey Bieber advised people who have been critical of her husband to learn about Lyme disease, per TMZ. "Please do your research and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years," she said. "Making fun of and belittling a disease you don't understand is never the way, all it takes is educating yourself." Lyme disease, caused by bacteria carried by ticks, can affect the joints, heart and nervous system. The CDC says about 300,000 Americans are diagnosed with the infection each year.
