A trip through a Starbucks drive-thru in St. Louis turned fatal on Feb. 10 for a 28-year-old figure skating coach and former US competitor, who police say was targeted in a robbery by a man already suspected in two other holdups. Gabrielle "Sam" Linehan was in her car around 10am when a gunman shot her and took her bank cards and driver's license, authorities said, per NBC News. Linehan, a silver medalist at the 2014 US Synchronized Skating Championships with the St. Louis Synergy team, coached at Metro Edge Figure Skating Club, whose president called the loss "profoundly heartbreaking" for the skating community. "It's like losing part of your soul," Linehan's longtime coach Ramona Peterson, who'd known her since the age of 10, told KSDK.
Police arrested 58-year-old Keith Lamon Brown on Wednesday and charged him with first-degree murder, multiple counts of first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He has pleaded not guilty and was denied bond; his next court date is March 11. Investigators say Brown is linked to at least two earlier armed robberies at drive-thru locations, and that surveillance footage shows the same man in a neon safety vest and white helmet firing shots. A search of his home allegedly turned up the vest and helmet along with items belonging to Linehan and other victims. Police, facing questions about why public alerts weren't issued before the fatal attack on Linehan, said the investigation is ongoing and that community safety remains a priority.
