Beyoncé on Secret Wedding: We Didn't Need a Photo Op

Essence magazine got the famously tight-lipped Beyonce talking about her top-secret nuptials to Jay-Z—her first public acknowledgment that the wedding even took place. “What Jay and I have is real. It's not about interviews or getting the right photo op,” the 27-year-old says in an interview excerpted in People, adding she’s not a “traditional woman” and didn’t want a big wedding. “It's been my day so many days already."

During the interview she groaned about talking about the wedding—“you’re gonna get me in trouble”—but added that she thought “people put too much emphasis on” engagement rings. "It's just material and it's just silly to me." She wouldn’t comment on the $5 million flawless diamond ring she’s been photographed wearing.
