Taylor Swift unexpectedly captured artist of the year honors at tonight's American Music Awards, preventing a sweep by Michael Jackson. The 19-year-old country-pop crossover sensation called being included in the same category as the King of Pop an "unimaginable honor." She won five awards; Jermaine Jackson accepted two of his brother's four trophies wearing a sequined glove on his left hand, the AP reports.

Swift didn't sing because she's in London, where she has a show tonight, but the other performers more than took up the slack. Lady Gaga appeared poised to dominate post-ceremony chitchat with her Vulcan headdress and flaming piano before Jennifer Lopez stole her thunder by hitting the deck, hard. Performing a boxing-themed routine to a song off her new album, JLo slipped and fell on her backside, only to pop right up and continue dancing. (More entertainment stories.)
