In a back and forth game decided in the final minutes of play, Texas A&M edged out a gritty UTEP team last night, 81-76. The No.15 Aggies survived a dismal first half, in which they made just 10 field goals, and were aided greatly by the efforts of Josh Carter, who had 23 points, including a crucial late three-pointer. In other Top 25 action:

  • No.7 Tennessee hammered the Division II Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils 101-44, shooting 60 percent from the floor on their way to a 2-0 record, after a win against Temple last Friday
  • Despite trailing 57-56 with 13:46 to play, No.12 Michigan State surged back to defeat Louisiana-Monroe 83-65, surviving the Warhawks' 14 three-pointers and Jordan Payne's 27 points.
