LSU confirmed that Michigan officially requested to speak with Les Miles about becoming the school’s next football coach. The talks will not begin until next week, after LSU plays Tennessee for the SEC championship game. Miles is a Michigan alum and met his wife at the school. His contract has a $1.25 million buyout if he accepts Wolverines’ job, reports ESPN.

The Miles-to-Michigan speculation began after Lloyd Carr stepped down following the Wolverines final game. Miles has been relatively mum about the situation, but has never said he is not a candidate for the job at his alma mater. ESPN reports that LSU will also meet with the coach to try to retain him. Miles played for and later coached as an assistant under Michigan legend Bo Schembechler. (More football stories.)
