Former middle school teacher Debra LaFave, who was convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old male student, was arrested yesterday in Florida for violating her probation by having unsupervised contact with a minor, police said. LaFave had been working as a waitress, and is accused of repeatedly discussing personal problems, boyfriends and sex in private conversations with a 17-year-old female coworker.

Her attorney dismissed the contact as "girl talk," and LaFave's "shocked" co-workers said she never behaved inappropriately. "We don't understand this at all,'' said the restaurant manager. "We are completely blown away.'' If a judge determines LeFave breached the conditions of her probation, she could face up to 15 years in jail. (More Debra LaFave stories.)
