Yao Ming put his team on his shoulders but in the end - literally - he couldn't get it done, missing two shots in the last minute as Houston fell at home to New Orleans, 87-82. Yao did have 30 points and 16 rebounds and forced David West into a 1-9 effort down the stretch after he had scorched other Houston defenders. Elsewhere in hoops:

  • Atlanta outran Chicago 105-84, for their first win over the Bulls in nearly four years, as Joe Johnson scored 37 points. Chicago rookie Joakim Noah was benched for the game after a confrontation with a coach Friday.
  • Chris Bosh had 38 points and 14 rebounds while playing a whopping 55 minutes, as Toronto beat Portland in double overtime, 116-109.
