After one early goal off 23 attempts for both the Blackhawks and Avalanche, three scoreless periods called for a shootout. • Los Angeles had been on a three-game win streak, but it was their NHL-worst record that showed through last night in a crushing 6-1 defeat in Calgary.
  • Eric Staal built his hat trick all in the third period of Carolina's landslide 7-2 win over Edmonton, pushing the Hurricanes to the top of the SE Division.
