Tom Crean has agreed to leave his head coaching post at Marquette to take over Indiana University’s basketball team. The formal announcement is expected today. “I think he's a great choice for Indiana University,” said an IU trustee of the hire. In 2003 Crean coached the Golden Eagles and star player Dwyane Wade to a Final Four appearance, reports the Indianapolis Star.

Indiana’s coaching job was vacant after Kelvin Sampson resigned midseason in the midst an NCAA recruiting scandal. In other coaching news, Oklahoma State head coach Sean Sutton resigned under pressure; he was two years into a five-year contract. His father, Eddie, led the Cowboys to two Final Four appearances with Sean as an assistant. There is no clear replacement for Sutton at the moment. (More basketball stories.)
