The NFL anthem protests appeared to take a notable turn Thursday night when a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers took a knee during the national anthem. Wire services don't have the image yet, but you can see it in tweeted photos here and here. The unidentified woman is believed to be the first NFL cheerleader to do so, reports the SFGate. Colin Kaepernick played for the 49ers when he began the practice to protest racial injustice. Last fall, Elle wondered why cheerleaders hadn't joined in, and former cheerleaders told the magazine that they'd probably be quickly fired if they did so. (Read more cheerleaders stories.)
