A Theory Emerges About Tom Brady's Tweet

Tom Brady posted a cryptic photo on Twitter and Instagram, and we know it's "cryptic" because that's the word being used in pretty much every story about it, including at USA Today, Fox Business, NBC Sports, Business Insider, MLive, etc. The caption-less image shows a silhouetted Brady walking into, or maybe out of, a tunnel at Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots play. Brady is a free agent, and everyone is trying to figure out if the image is a clue about whether he will play for New England again or a different team. However, Adam Schefter, a respected sports reporter for ESPN, did some digging and threw some cold water on that speculation.

"Am told that this tweet is not related to Tom Brady’s football future," he tweeted. "Repeat, not related to his football future. But the speculation sure is fun." So what then? Josh Slagter at MLive thinks the most plausible theory is that the image is related to an upcoming Super Bowl ad. At Sports Illustrated, Dan Gartland takes that a bit further. "My money is on it being a setup for a Super Bowl ad," he writes. "Brady, smartly dressed and well coifed, a little gray in his beard, walks through the tunnel at Gillette Stadium. He strolls into the camera frame and says, 'My time on the field is running out, that’s why I wear TAG Heuer timepieces—to make sure every second is luxurious.'" (More Tom Brady stories.)
