(Newser) – Paula Abdul’s surprise announcement that she won’t return to American Idol has disappointed fellow host Ryan Seacrest and several Idol alumni, E! Online reports.

  • "I was shocked," Seacrest said on his radio show this morning. "I'm just bummed because we've worked together for so many years." The announcement is “not a publicity stunt," he added.

  • "We love you,” wrote season 8 winner Kris Allen on Twitter. "Glad I was able to be a part of your last season on the show. You showed us so much love."
  • "I'm really sad 2 see Paula Abdul not coming back 2 Idol," Danny Gokey, another season 8 finalist Tweeted. "She was the judge with the biggest heart! She really will be missed :("
  • "OK, I'm so bummed Paula is not returning to Idol," Tweeted E! News host Candace Cameron Bure. "It just won't be the same without her :(."
