Admitting you shared a hot tub with a naked minor probably isn't the best political move, and it caught up with Utah's Republican majority leader Kevin Garn yesterday. In announcing his resignation, Garn said, "After discussing this matter with my family, I have decided that it is in the best interests of them, my colleagues, and the people of Utah."

Cheryl Maher, the then-15-year-old involved in the 1985 incident, tells the Salt Lake Tribune that she's felt "a lot of peace" since coming forward with the story, but "never meant to hurt anyone." She encouraged Garn to "turn this thing around to something positive," by working with women in crisis or the mentally ill. (More Kevin Garn stories.)
