CBS dropped the ball on the most eagerly awaited part of its NCAA basketball tournament coverage, critics agree. Hiring Jennifer Hudson—who isn't even a CBS recording artist—to sing "One Shining Moment" was one thing, but turning the wildly popular annual highlight montage into a Jennifer Hudson video was quite another. Some reactions:

  • Hudson "made a total of five appearances of varying lengths during this thing. What could we have seen in that time?" wonders Chris Littmann of the Sporting News, who proceeds to list a whole bunch.

  • "Too much Jennifer Hudson," opines the Big Lead. "She’s nice to look at, but every time she appeared on screen, she chewed up room that could have been used for highlights."
  • "Prepare yourself for lots of on-screen shots of one Chicago's favorite daughters and some serious omissions," warns Kyle Koster of the Chicago Sun-Times.
  • Reactions on Twitter and YouTube are trending negative, CBS itself reports in a roundup of reactions. "Why are there clips of her singing?" asked a YouTube user. "Ruined one of the big moments of the tournament."
