Thanks to schools banning Silly Bandz and putting them on the national radar, the elastics-slash-bracelets are the hottest new accessory…for adults. “If kids are going crazy over these, I have to have them,” says one 30-year-old who mixes her palm tree and monkey-shaped Bandz with her Rolex watch and Tiffany bracelet. “The Silly Bandz look great in there,” she tells the New York Times.
Celebs from Mary-Kate Olsen to Agyness Deyn have jumped on the Bandz-wagon, meaning you’d better snap up a 24-pack while it’s still $4.95. The president of the company that created them insists, despite naming them “Silly Bandz,” they were always intended “for all ages,” it’s just that “kids took to them first.” One 23-year-old sums up their appeal nicely: “If you have on a silly rubber band that glows in the dark, it makes everything a little better.”
