Combine dodgeball with the ethos of the movie Fight Club, and you get quotes like this: "You tell your friends, 'I went to an underground parking garage last night and got my face smashed in with a dodgeball.' "How cool is that?" So says one fan (a banker in his day job) of the unusual sport popular in Los Gatos, California. The San Jose Mercury News explains all.

"We're like a family, basically," says another player. "We laugh, we cry, we hit each other in the face with dodgeballs." The players, generally 20 to a side, gather in the parking garage about midnight in what is described as a "don't ask don't tell" arrangement with police. Tales of broken bounds abound. "It's addictive to hit somebody clean in the face," says that same banker quoted earlier.
