Sarah Palin made a front-row appearance in support of daughter Bristol on Dancing With the Stars last night, complete with a booing controversy. Just before she appeared on camera, as Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough were discussing their dance, boos could be heard from the hall, Mediaite notes. ABC says they weren't for Palin but for the scores of Grey and Hough, which audience members apparently thought were too low, notes the LA Times. "They were just expressing their feelings about a really, really good dance," said a network spokeswoman. "It's not at all unusual."

In any event, the boos were hushed before the former governor appeared on camera. "It's amazing," Palin said when asked what she thought of her daughter's dancing. "It's great to see all this courage, joy, and exuberance." Bristol and partner Mark Ballas scored 22 out of 30 points for their quickstep, while Grey and Hough were the evening's top scorers with 24 out of 30. Michael Bolton and partner Chelsie Hightower scored just 12 for what judge Bruno Toniolo labeled "the worst jive in 11 seasons." (More Bristol Palin Dancing With the Stars stories.)
