“Madonna’s leaving, Perez is coming.” Those words are straight from the mouth of the music industry's most unlikely new player, gossip blogger Perez Hilton. He has parlayed posts praising unknown and upcoming acts on his website into a possible deal doing the same for Warner Brothers Records, the New York Times reports.

The move isn’t as zany as it seems: An NYU study shows that CDs with significant early blog exposure can outsell their neglected kin three to one, and Hilton's online home nets 2.8 million monthly visitors. A spin as A&R man for Warner Brothers, soon to be down one Material Girl, could snag him a six-figure advance, along with entrée into an occupation that doesn't include scribbling obscenities on celebrity pics.
