After winning best actor Sunday at the Oscars for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, making him the first person of Egyptian heritage to fill that slot, it's understandable that Rami Malek was pretty excited. Maybe too excited: The 37-year-old took a tumble, Oscar in hand, after receiving the award. BuzzFeed reports the fall took place during a commercial break, and it was caught on tape, with someone yelling, "Oh, Rami!" as bystanders near the stage rushed over to help him up.
Some reports are saying Malek fell off the stage itself, which is what the short video appears to show, although house medics told the Los Angeles Times that he simply "slipped" nearby, but "did not fall off the stage." People notes that Malek, who clung valiantly to his Oscar, was quickly placed in a seat in the front row of the theater, where paramedics examined him. He was then moved backstage, and he seemed OK while being interviewed about his win a short time later. "Tonight I'm celebrating with all of you," he said at a later presser, per Us Weekly.
