Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius missed out in another attempt to qualify for the Olympics today, the AP reports, improving his time in the 400 meters but still falling short of the qualifying time at a meet in Rome. The 21-year-old South African will try again Wednesday in Switzerland, and could still be selected to the country's relay squad.

Pistorius said he still hopes to qualify for the Olympics but "it was always going to be a very difficult goal, I have to be realistic and I have to admit the chances are slim." Pistorius resumed training less than two months ago after a sports arbitration court ruled that he was eligible to run in Beijing. (More Oscar Pistorius stories.)
