If Clippers point guard Sam Cassell was auditioning to join his close friend Kevin Garnett with the Celtics, it didn't go very well. The wily vet was ejected in the first half for a flagrant foul on Rajon Rondo, who led the Celts to a 111-100 win with 24 points and eight dishes. Also in pro hoops:

  • The Heat's first game after trading Shaq went much like their previous ones—they lost to Rasheed Wallace and the Pistons, despite pulling to within a point late in the fourth.
  • The Knicks lost their seventh straight to the Pacers, 103-100; Indiana put an end to its own seven-game skid.
