(Newser) – “Let’s show the world what two little Latin girls can do," Jennifer Lopez wrote on Instagram to Shakira before their Super Bowl halftime show, notes People. Early reviews suggest the two performers did just that. The Hollywood Reporter says Lopez "stunned," calling attention to one of her wardrobe choices: a flag. As Sports Illustrated notes, the flag was a cape that paid homage to her Puerto Rican roots—the outside depicted the American flag and the inside Puerto Rico's. (See her unfurl it here.) Lopez also sang a verse from "Born in the USA" while she wore it, and she was joined onstage by her 11-year-old daughter, Emme.

Lopez was born in the Bronx, but her parents were Puerto Rican, notes WPIX. "Fierce," declared US Weekly of the overall show, saying it proved that both Lopez, 50, and Shakira, 43, remain "at the top of their game." "Epic," asserts E! Online of the show, and provides more details of the individual performances. Shakira brought out special guest Bad Bunny during her performance, while Lopez brought out J Balvin.
